Earlier this week, Nick Woodman proclaims the potential introduction of a quadcopter product coming as early as Q1 2016.  Woodman also said the quadcopter is probably the most versatile accessory for GoPro cameras.

A lot of the major players are focusing on creating the platform for viewing super high definition content, which in the end they talk to GoPro to be the chief enabler of the content itself.  This phenomenon could represent a very lucrative new market for GoPro.  The company recognizes the same trends as seen when the first HERO camera launched.  Analysts have estimated in 2015 the Consumer drone shipments will jump to 170%.

According to the US’s Consumer Electronics Association, the global market for consumer drones totalled $84 million last year but is forecast to top $300 million by 2018. The CEA adds that if regulators relax the rules for the use of such aircraft by commercial organisations, the market could further swell to $1 billion by 2020.

On May 2015, GoPro had the strongest gains among Silicon Valley tech offices, increasing 6.6% to $56.81 per share, its highest closing price since January 2015.

Bullish investors wanted to see a product and market diversification on GoPro – it seemingly looks like things are going in that direction.  GPRO surged after announcing plans to build a camera-equipped drone and also design a 360 stereoscopic array for virtual reality images containing six HERO4 cameras.
