Design wise, the HERO camera is well received by millions of GoPro users. The upcoming camera itself maintains the boxy form factor with some interesting upgrades including a different battery backdoor, LED indicators on the front, multiple microphone locations for surround-sound recording and substantial round body edges. The other interesting addition is 3-indents on the top and sides of the GoPro’s lens.

Rumors about the new GoPro HERO5 surfaced late January 2015 with reports which suggest the implementation of 8K resolution video capture option.  When this design change occurs, the GoPro HERO will be the first action camera to film in 8K.

Many would imagine with the scarcity of 8K television support, that GoPro technology will be underutilized. Currently, the demand for 4K content has not been defined as ubiquitous because the mainstream element of consumer electronics remains with 1080p resolution.

8K television standard was approved in August 2012, and only now the consumer market is seeing it for the first time. Summing up the compatibility for the hypothetical HERO5, the only displays in mainstream electronic devices to really exceed 4K is the 5K retina iMac.

Meanwhile, the patent also includes more GoPro device improvements like faster upload and response times.  This is made possible by upgrading the Bluetooth in the device to 4.0.  Also, the battery life has been significantly improved by way of incorporating a much more powerful cell.  On average, the HERO4 may film continuously between [1 hr 50 mins] to [2 hr 20 mins].

According to consumer electronics analysts, the pricing for the GoPro HERO5 will be exceptionally important. The current Black and Silver versions of the HERO4 are at $499 USD and $399 USD.  There are certain expectations for GoPro to deliver a paralleled version on the next release in the camera series.  Despite this patent surfacing, analysts that follow small cameras are speculating that the GoPro HERO5 will be released sometime late in 2015.  So for now, look forward to the firmware upgrades coming spring 2015.
