These guys seem not to bother with ‘playing it safe’ when it comes to following their passions. Late into April 2015, Men’s Journal released their 50 Top Most Adventurous Men.  The list has named world renowned guys like James Cameron – Filmmaker, Jeremy Jones – Professional Snowboarder, John Grunsfeld – Astronaut and Mountaineer.  In depth bios and qualifications can be found at the Men’s Journal list page.

The list serves up more than just adrenaline junkies, although the majority of the bravados have some kind of death defying distinction under their belt.  Some GoPro athletes, and their friends got into the list – you’ll see why after watching their videos.

Chris Davenport

  • 2001: Wins his second free-ski World Championship at the 2001 Red Bull Snow Thrill of Alaska, in a field that included Shane McConkey and Hugo Harrison.
  • 2007: Becomes the first person to ski all 54 of Colorado’s peaks over 14,000 foot elevation in one year; the same year he made three first descents off Denali’s north summit, including Black Rock and the Thunderbird Couloir.
  • 2011: Skis Everest’s Lhotse Face.
  • 2014: Skis every major volcano in the Pacific Northwest in 14 days.
  • 2015: Inducted into U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame.

GoPro expert Chris Davenport is known as one of the premier professional big mountain skiers. We continue to be surprised by the incredible content that Chris produces. This beloved GoPro athlete is a two-time world champion skier and has conquered all fifty-four of Colorad’s 14,000-ft peaks in less than a year! Earlier this year, Chris had the incredible honor of being inducted in the skiing Hall of Fame

Danny Macaskill

  • 2009: At age 23, releases a five-and-a-half minute video of his bike stunts that would be viewed over 34 million times; signed with Red Bull and quit his bike mechanic job to ride full-time.
  • 2010: Releases Way Back Home, a video showcasing his riding skills in his native Scotland, including the 1,300-foot-tall Cruachan Dam in the Scottish Highlands.
  • 2012: As an official Olympics torchbearer, he rides through Glasgow carrying the flame — mostly while doing wheelies.
    2014: Became first to bike the Cuillin Ridge on his native Isle of Skye.

MacAskill’s Drop and Roll Tour, which features the world’s top street trials riders, is taking to the road this summer, and he’s performing at bike expos in Europe while compiling film footage for his next opus.

Jimmy Chin

  • 2003: Crosses Tibet’s remote Chang Tang Plateau with three other mountaineers in a campaign to save the endangered chiru, a Tibetan antelope.
  • 2006: With Kit and Rob DesLauriers, becomes the first American to make a ski descent of Mount Everest along the South Pillar route.
  • 2007: Works as climber and photographer on an expedition to retrace George Mallory and Sandy Irvine’s last journey up the North face of Everest, which becomes the documentary The Wildest Dream.”
  • 2011: With Conrad Anker and Renan Ozturk, makes the first ascent of the Shark’s Fin.
  • 2014: Spends three weeks sailing and climbing Oman’s Musandam Peninsula with climbing pals Alex Honnold and Renan Ozturk.

Jimmy Chin is one of most legendary adventure athletes and photographers. His passion and enthusiasm for pushing his limits and challenging himself to explore the unknown has allowed him to travel to some of the most beautiful sites.  As he climbs, skies and snowboards around the world he never ceases to amaze with the images he captures with his GoPro.

Matthias Giraud

  • 2008: First to ski-BASE jump off Mississippi Head on Oregon’s Mount Hood.
  • 2011: Becomes first person to ski BASE jump off the Matterhorn, in Switzerland. “I almost didn’t pull it off,” he recalls. “It was kind of sketchy, but I landed it.”
  • 2011: Outruns an avalanche at his home ski resort in Megeve, France, by skiing off a cliff and parachuting to safety. “And from the bottom I took two ski lifts and I was home,” he says.
  • 2012: Makes the first wingsuit flight over the crater of the Eyafjallajokull volcano in Iceland, one year after its eruption.

Giraud has skied in places he’s taken ski-BASE–jumping to include the Matterhorn, in Switzerland, Oregon’s Mt. Hood, and the Eiger.

“I use my chute as a tool to ski terrain that is not ski-able otherwise. It’s my way of taking skiing to where you can’t take it on its own.”

Travis Rice

  • 2002: Wins his first X Games gold in Slopestyle at age 19, a year after turning pro.
  • 2006: Wins snowboarding’s most prestigious contest, Air & Style, with a double backflip backside 180.
  • 2011: Releases Art of Flight, which becomes the most successful action sports film ever, thanks to groundbreaking clarity and slow-motion technology.
