Liu Yongbang, aka “Abond,” attempts to climb a 5.14 D class climbing route, Hot Dumpling — one of the most challenging climbing routes found on White Mountain in Yangshuo, China.

Yangshuo is at the heart of a lush farming region in southern China famous for its karst-limestone towers raising out of green rice paddies and crisscrossed by jade-green rivers. It is also the heart of China’s rockclimbing scene that, unlike much of the rest of China, is very cheap and ‘low-budget’ tourist friendly. You can come here to climb, mountainbike, trailrun, explore caves or just kickback and enjoy the stunning views – especially the White Mountain. The photos and paintings of the area are familiar to anyone who has ever glanced through a travel book on China. The rock towers in nearby Xingping appear on the back of China’s RMB 20 bank note.
