Well a “Pro” is just anyone who gets paid to play golf. Amateur status comes with varying perks like being able to play in college, as well as other prestigious tournaments like the Masters if you win the US Amateur, however, as an amateur you cannot accept prize money for tournaments you enter (great college players like DeChambeau and Spieth a few years ago did not earn any money from the events play played on the PGA Tour while holding amateur status). Being a pro just means that you play and hope to earn a paycheck at the end.
